The Mika Foundation began as the Mika Area Development and Empowerment (MADE) Foundation in 1998, founded by Hector Alila and Beatrice Alila Katita. The organization was founded out of a sincere concern to help HIV/AIDS orphans and other families. Their mission was to ensure that the people of Mika have their basic needs met, including having adequate food, medical care, shelter and education. The Foundation began working closely with the local community to develop long-term programs that will help them help themselves and improve their lives.
The name of the MADE Foundation changed in January 2007 for simplicity. The goal of helping the people of Mika improve their lives remains the same.
